This week, Two Planets celebrated its soft opening. Located at the top of the hill on Hermannstraße, just up the block from Hermannplatz, Two Planets is a tiny new shop with a special selling point: bagels!
Now, I am no expert on New York-style bagels, but what I do know is that bagels are generally tasty and awesome. They’re also really hard to make look nice (at least if my attempts to make them are any indication–they always turn out delicious and lumpy). And they aren’t necessarily something you can regularly come by in Berlin. So in that sense, this place is pretty great; it’s not just another coffee shop, but one that’s offering something different. (Side note: apparently the bagels have also hijacked the Twitter account.)
Of course, there are other options, like salads and various baked goods, as well as coffee from Bonanza. I definitely had some of the latter to accompany my cinnamon-raisin bagel.
Inside, the decor is simple, with a white and black color theme and a few plants here and there to add a splash of color. The front room gets a lot of light from the window facing the street, and is ideal for working (free WiFi), reading, or just hanging out with a friend. I only briefly checked out the back room, but didn’t sit there, as it was a bit too dark for my taste. Even so, the overall vibe was nice–welcoming, unpretentious, and worth another visit.
