While walking through Gay Village in Montreal, we came across an outdoor art gallery, which turned out to be Galerie Blanc. I knew nothing about it before we came across it, so that made it a pretty fun discovery. In short, it’s a very minimalist gallery on a street corner with changing exhibitions, and the entire concept is pretty interesting (you can read an interview about it here). The exhibition that was on happened to be that of the biannual magazine TOILETPAPER, and the bright and colorful artwork really grabbed our attention, so we spent a few moments walking through and looking at the fun, bizarre, surrealist art. The concept is one that felt like a pop-up experience — one that was easy enough for a three-year-old to take part in without getting bored — and I thought it was a creative use of public space.
