Before I moved to Germany, I took two years of German while working on my M.A. One year was at the local community college, and one year was at the university where my graduate program was. Both times I was lucky to have great German teachers, two of whom I am still in touch with.
Last Sunday, my German professor from SSU was in town with her daughter and organized a meet-up in Mitte. So M. and I met up with another former student and his partner at Oranium for some drinks, snacks, and catching up. It was a lot of fun to see each other and to spend an afternoon socializing in German. I still have a ways to go, but it was also great to see how far I’ve come–from struggling to complete sentences in German to spending an entire afternoon speaking German exclusively.
