Thursday Morning in Vienna

Last month I went to Vienna (and Austria) for the first time. It was for work (you can read more about that here), so I didn’t get to see as much of the city as I wanted — or at least not in the in-depth way I’m so accustomed to when traveling. Luckily, the office and the hotel are both in Neubau (the seventh district), which I found to be a cool area, with lots of interesting looking shops and buildings, and some great spots for eating and drinking.

On the morning of my fifth day in town, I met up with my friend Nicolas at a nearby coffee shop slash bookstore, and as I’m a huge fan of both of those things, I find it was a good choice for hanging out and catching up for a couple of hours. After an intense first half of the week, I was transitioning to tourist mode, as my family was due to fly in that afternoon for a long weekend together. So I was finally able to take some time on my walk to relax a bit, take in my surroundings, and snap some shots of the area. I still haven’t decided exactly how I feel about Vienna (I think I’ll need to return to understand it better), but I did love this mix of run-down artsy buildings with graffiti and grime and gorgeous Altbau facades — probably because these are things that remind me of Berlin.
