June is here, which means it’s baby month! As a result, I am trying to make the most of every moment before our lives radically change. Essentially this means getting out and about and being social when I have the energy, as well as eating all of the things. It seems like the past year has been a huge growth spurt for vegan food options in Berlin, and now I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by all of them but still want to try them all out. On Friday I made my way to The Bowl, which has been open about a month, for lunch with a friend visiting from Finland. We both really enjoyed our bowls (she had the California Bowl and I had the Makro Bowl), and I definitely have plans to return with M. sometime soon. Afterward, the two of us took a walk to Cupcake for some vegan treats, and then back to Kreuzberg before parting ways. It was a really great way to spend a warm Friday afternoon.
On Saturday, we woke up and immediately got into gear, as it was errand running day. We were able to borrow my mother-in-law’s car and stock up on essentials so that we will have a surplus for when the baby is here. This means getting a couple months of cat litter, 3-4 months worth of cat food, lots of soy and rice milk and orange juice, detergent, and things like that… mostly it was stuff that we can’t just grab from the corner store (or that we can, but is much cheaper elsewhere). We also got the last two items on our baby list: a diaper pail and a solution for storing cloth diapers. Now we are pretty much ready! To celebrate our success, we stopped off at Let It Be for some vegan burgers, and then watched the new Spongebob movie that evening (though we both agree the first was better).
Sunday morning involved a leisurely breakfast before heading to get some vegan doughtnuts at Brammibal’s. We then walked back through Friedrichshain, stopping off for a shared snack at Mama Burrito. Once we got home, we immediately dug into our doughnuts, which put us both into a sugar coma, and the rest of the day was full of watching TV shows, editing photos, listening to tunes, reading, and all the other stuff we love doing.
