Weekend Update #49

Last weekend was yet another weekend that was mostly uneventful, thanks to the continual struggle to figure out how to balance work and a baby. As I said on Twitter the other day, as of late (and up until today really) I’ve felt like I’ve simply been surviving, but not really enjoying life like I should. And it’s difficult, particularly with the baby going through a sleep regression and M. being out of town for a couple days, and me being on deadline. But the biggest project hanging over my head was at the finish line, so I spent all day Saturday editing, chipping away at the bulk of what was left. Meanwhile M. took over the household things and was on baby duty for most of the day, and he also made an awesome fall vegetable ragout, which was the perfect thing to sit down to at the end of the day.

Because Saturday was so full, I had very little work left on Sunday, and since it wasn’t raining we opted to go out and enjoy the weather. Plus it was Nikolaustag, and the littles was dressed up as a Weihnachtsmann, so we wanted to go out and show off his festive outfit. At the nearby Markthalle they were having a Naschmarkt (dessert market), so we met up with our friends and their daughter for the first time in months. There we exchanged parenting stories and sampled the tasty food, like vegan hot chocolate, vegan carrot cake, and pastel de nata for M. Then when we got home, I was able to finish up my work and enjoy the rest of the evening. While it wasn’t the most glamorous of weekends, it was important and I got a lot done, which means there’s more time for me to enjoy the final weeks of 2015.
