Weekend Update #37

instagram!

It’s nearing the end of M.’s parental leave, so I was especially glad to have what was essentially a five-day weekend, from Thursday through Monday. We did a lot this weekend, and we also did a lot of nothing, which is the perfect balance if you ask me.

Thursday started with me heading out to a Babytreff at a nearby children’s store. There were only three of us, but it was nice to spend 90 minutes hanging out, drinking a coffee, and talking with other moms. I’d like to return in the coming weeks. After it was over, M. met me and we took a long walk home, stopping at EAT and swinging by the ice cream cafe before heading home in a downpour. That night I finally tried out this recipe for tofu chilaquiles. Yum!

Friday was a bit more low-key, in that I can’t remember what I even did. At one point, M. was pretty exhausted, so I took B. on a walk to DM and Veganz, and once home, the rest of the day was spent hanging out, reading, relaxing… which is good, because Saturday was a busy one. We walked to and through Neukölln to pick up a Kinderbettgitter (no good English translation), essentially something to put along the side of our bed as a guard rail for co-sleeping. For the past 12 weeks (side note: can you believe my kid is 12 weeks old today?) we’ve been sleeping with him in the middle, but it means I can’t turn my back on him, which was a literal pain. So with this, we can now rotate what side of the bed he sleeps on, and he won’t fall out. We also stopped off at Pêle-Mêle for a small lunch, went shopping to pick up a few groceries, and then made our way back home, having walked 13 kilometers in total. Not bad!

As for Sunday and today, they were more along the lines of staying in bed all day. We started watching “Narcos” yesterday and ate burritos for dinner, but not much else noteworthy to report, aside from the fact that I did some editing. That’s alright though; I think it’s important to have days where you don’t accomplish much but allow yourself to do very little and not feel guilty about it. And since we won’t have long weekends like this for awhile, I am very much OK with that.
