October

October began in temperate Rome, where we ate pizza and gelato and took in all the architecture, and it ended in cold and rainy Berlin with a tiny little bear in our apartment.

To be honest, I didn’t do much during the month as I had specifically set aside time to focus on my driving. Although I went to the required driving theory courses, they were in German, and I wanted to study in English (the language I took my test in), so I bought a subscription online and spent all month learning the questions. Additionally, I ramped up my road time by taking 1-2 lessons a week to fulfill the required times. I was naturally very nervous, but on Halloween I took the written theory test and passed it with no mistakes!

Other than that, we had our first bought of sickness that comes with cooler weather and KiTa, so the greater part of one week was spent caring for a sick child, which means lots of downtime while he slept on me or hung out next to me. I also cooked a lot of comfort food like oatmeal and soups and an awesome butternut squash risotto.

And of course there was reading, which I have gotten back into (though I admittedly adjusted my year end reading goal from 65 books down to 55). Here’s what I finished this past month:

“Sex Object” by Jessica Valenti
“The Wonder Weeks – How to Stimulate Your Baby’s Mental Development and Help Him Turn His 10 Predictable, Great, Fussy Phases Into Magical Leaps Forward” by Hetty van de Rijt
“The Outrun” by Amy Liptrot
“Island of the Blue Dolphins” by Scott O’Dell

Speaking of reading, something I wrote (that you should read) was published: an interview with Liz Suburbia (whose “Sacred Heart” I read earlier this year). You can check it out here.
