Seahorses: Beyond Imagination.

I’ve always been fascinated with seahorses; admittedly, the way they reproduce, with the males caring for the eggs while they develop, strikes a chord with me. I know there are proposed reasons why this makes since for the species, but I still like to think that seahorses are subverting gender norms. That aside, I also simply love the delicate look of seahorses, and although there may be a bit of anthropomorphism involved in my thinking, the fact that they look less like fish makes them seem more human-like.

This past March, during our trip to the Tennessee Aquarium, we visited the exhibit, Seahorses: Beyond Imagination, and I found myself filled with wonder thinking about these creatures. I was also amazed, because while I knew there was variety in the species, I don’t think I ever thought about how many different kinds of seahorses there are.
