Berlin: Schlachtensee

schlachtensee

When the high in Berlin wavers around 100 degrees, the only thing you can really do for yourself is either camp out in a movie theater all day or hang out on the beach. This past Sunday, we (myself, my man, and my future sister-in-law) opted for the latter, spending an afternoon at Schlachtensee.

Surprisingly, the trip was my first real visit to a lake in Berlin for the actual purpose of relaxing and going swimming. And in spite of how squeamish I am about murky waters, I did quite well. Granted, I spent most of my time soaking up the sun, reading a book, and enjoying bread, almond butter, and beer, but the short swim I took was refreshing and not too icky.

One thing I did notice, however, is how much the short time in the water wore me out. Although I started swimming young and have always held my own in the water, I honestly can’t remember the last time I went swimming. So it’s no surprise how out of shape I was in even just treading water. I suppose that’s something I will have to remedy, and luckily, Berlin has a lot of options when it comes to swimming…
