This weekend was another successful one, in that we accomplished household stuff but also got to relax to a degree. Friday night was the start of that when I made butternut squash pierogi, which M. remarked tasted “like Christmas.” It also got me on a kick, and I made dough for many more, which I am slowly filling and freezing in preparation for when the baby comes and we need quick meals. On that note, if anyone knows of some good recipes to make in advance and freeze (and which are vegan or easily made vegan) please do let me know. I’m aiming to make one a week for the next two months.
Saturday morning kicked off bright and early with breakfast and a couple hours of hanging the curtain rods and curtains in our bedroom… it is so much darker in there now, and so much more peaceful, and that’s only with one pair. I had to make an IKEA run today (Monday) to get more hooks and rings, so tonight we can hang the other pair, which means total blackout curtains! And they’re a dark blue, which gives a nice splash of color during the day but a calming and restful effect at night.
After we hung the curtains, we set out to enjoy the weather, since Berlin was experiencing a high of 72 and everywhere you look, the flowers and trees are starting to bloom. We walked down to our local ice cream spot for a couple scoops each, then sat in the sun in Görlitzer Park, people/dog watching and reading. M. got a quick haircut after, and then we had a late afternoon lunch outside at our neighborhood Indian restaurant. We had to do a quick stop at a couple shops for food stuff, and then we got home just as the sun went away and the rain came out. Perfect timing.
Both of us had work to do on Sunday, but it wasn’t urgent, so we slept in, enjoyed breakfast, read a bit, worked for a few hours, read a bit more, etc. As you can see, the cats did a lot of lounging around as well, which is just fine.
And now it’s Monday again. I will be working from home for most of the week, which is nice to do now and again after not doing it so much in the past three months, though it’s a challenge some days to not be distracted. I’m also looking forward to a few sunny days in between all the overcast and cool ones.
