This weekend was a long one, which was just what I needed to reset and recharge from the stress of the past couple months. I made Friday a “me” day, which meant walking around in the sunshine and meeting with people over good food. First was lunch with C. at Pêle Mêle, where she gave me some pregnancy and parenting tips, and then I got a brownie and a cookie to go for my meeting with E., where we hung out and complained about #expatproblems like taxes. We later took a walk through Neukölln, and after parting ways, I made my home to briefly stop off and drop off my things before heading out to dinner with M. and his dad. We went to Huong Que, which has amazing vegan duck.
Saturday was a day full of sunshine, so I knew I wanted to take a long walk. We went and did our weekend shopping, but M. had a sore throat, so we parted ways in the afternoon, with him staying home while I went out to meet with our friend T. We walked to Görlitzer Park and sat out in the sun while she ate and I relaxed, and then we continued on a little walk to go run some errands. Along the way, we stopped off at Katie’s Blue Cat, aka my new favorite spot, and got the most amazing vegan cookies to accompany our walk. After getting some essentials at DM, we parted ways and I headed back home to M., who had only gotten sicker.
Once home, I got started on dinner, luxurious tomato-basil pasta, which is the first recipe I tried out of my new Oh She Glows cookbook, and it was really good. Then we settled in for “House of Cards” and ended up watching the first three episodes until we were ready to sleep. That show is so good.
Sunday morning was lazy, with reading and Candy Crush and kitten hangouts. M. was still sick, but we still got a lot of things accomplished, mainly figuring out what we need to do to request maternity/parental leave and get paid for it. Lots and lots of paperwork, but hey, we’re in Germany, so normal.
In the evening, once all of that was done, I made another recipe, the protein power goddess bowl, and again it was followed up with three more episodes of “House of Cards.” Which brings us to Monday.
