I’ve been back in Berlin for a week now, and it has certainly been a reality check. After three weeks of beautiful, flawless weather, we came back to temperatures below freezing and a limited amount of sun. Pile massive jetlag and a total desire to escape responsibility on top of that and what you will have is me being a hermit and struggling with the simplest of tasks, such as working part-time and staying awake for 12 hours out of the day.
Yet in spite of being bummed out about being back in “real life,” my week has been brightened up by the visit of a good friend, Avi. He was here last summer for a month and returned again for a week visit, and it has been great to see one another. So yesterday, as a way of escaping the Monday blues, I forced myself to go outside and we went on a walk through Neukölln.
Avi’s main goal was to have coffee and eat something… since he is a vegetarian with a lactose intolerance, I thought that Vux would be perfect. However, it is apparently closed Mondays and Tuesdays, which is something I always seem to forget, so we walked a bit further down to Ungeheuer. It was pretty empty, so we were able to hang out and enjoy our food, which consisted of a vegetarian scramble for him and fruit with müsli for me.
