It’s difficult to believe that December is already here; this year seems to have flown by. And it’s now advent season (interestingly enough, something Germans seem to love, even though only 62% of Germans consider themselves Christian and even less here in Berlin), one of my favorite times of the year.
After eating breakfast this morning (leftover Thanksgiving pie from last night’s meal), M. opened his first advent present. See, rather than a few presents on Christmas day, I want to have something to look forward to every day, so I have a different gift for the first 24 days of December, ranging from homemade crafts and small tokens of appreciation to smaller items and a few more substantial things I hope he will like.
Then I suggested that we go on a walk to get some fresh air and also to try and burn off some of the calories from Thanksgiving food. We both decided separately that we wanted to head down to Treptower Park, so that’s exactly what we did.
We walked through the park and along the harbor, checking out the fall colors, the birds, and the waterfront, along with a stroll through the Sowjetisches Ehrenmal, where we watched all the dogs out on their walks. Then back home before it got too dark (sunset at 3:50 p.m…what?!).
Tomorrow is back to work for both of us, although M. took an early shift from a co-worker so that he is home in time for tomorrow’s activity together.
