Though I have free moments here and there throughout the day when I can get some work done, I have pretty much resigned myself to the fact that weekends are the best for getting work done right now (or really any time when M. is also home and can take care of the kiddo). But in spite of that, we’re working on trying to find a good balance so that we can still spend time together as a family.
This weekend I spent Saturday morning getting work done, and then in the afternoon, we headed out to take advantage of the weather. First we had some food at Cafe Valentin, a cozy little slice of Scandinavian comfort. Then we went to Globetrotter, where I finally found a pair of shoes for winter (requirements: vegan, waterproof, supportive), even though it meant getting trail running shoes (full disclosure: I only run when I’m trying to catch the bus). Luckily, the pair I found met those requirements and also wasn’t neon, as most shoes in that category tend to be. Once that was over, we made our way home and M. cooked dinner while I got more work done.
Sunday night was a bit rough in spite of the extra hour of sleep, as the baby woke often. Around 7am, M. stepped in and took care of him and let me sleep until it was nearly 11. Let me tell you, that was needed! After breakfast I did more work, and then we headed to Neukölln to get ice cream at one of our favorite spots, which was due to close that day. We stopped off for pizza first, and after we were done, made our way to Mos Eisley, only to find it closed. Turns out it had sold out the day before and closed a day early! We were disheartened but not defeated, and instead we went to Tanne B, another favorite spot, which also serves ice cream until mid-December (thankfully).
Back at home, I started doing more work, and when I finished, M. made tomato soup for dinner while I put the kid to bed. He had been going through a sleep regression sort of deal for two weeks, where he was falling asleep but not staying asleep until close to midnight. But the clock change must have done the trick because he went to bed for good around 8:30 (formerly 9:30), and tonight I got him in bed at 8. Hopefully this sticks!
