I can’t put into words how much of a relief it is to have nothing work-related to do right now. Instead, our to-do list is filled with practical things for around the home, all of which we’re crossing off one by one. In particular, we finally had time to take off the side of the crib and attach it to the bed. We’ve been co-sleeping/bedsharing since day one, but we had the crib at the end of the bed for naps and eventually it will become a toddler bed. Yet the bed has still felt cramped and small, so I wanted to try and attach it to my side. The height was a little off, which meant we needed to either lower the crib slats or raise our bed, so on Saturday, M. did some meticulous measuring and I assisted him in fixing the height, and now we have an extra 70 cm of space for the baby. After all that work was done, we rewarded ourselves with burgers at a new-ish spot in town, Lily Burger, which has insane burgers, like veg bacon cheeseburgers or chili cheeseburgers. We also did some shopping for some hard-to-find ingredients at nearby Karstadt, and then in the evening watched “Star Wars Episode I,” as we are re-watching all six movies before we finally see the new one in the theater (which won’t happen until January, since we procrastinated on buying seats at the IMAX and all the good spots are already taken).
On Sunday we made plans to meet with a friend at Tischendorf, a sweet little cafe in Neukölln, where we had sandwiches and caught up. Afterward, we made our way to Lager Lager to get more beer (I got a Buddelship Hamburg beer made from sauerkraut and an IPA from Stone Brewing’s new Berlin location). After parting ways with our friend, M. and I stopped off at a bookstore and got some presents for B., and then I picked up some vegan double chocolate cookies from one of my favorite spots, Katie’s Blue Cat. Then we took a leisurely walk home; already the city is getting quieter as people are leaving for the holidays. I love Berlin in summer, but I sure do love it during Christmas week.
